The new chatbot for study support will be launched next academic year at the School of Economics and Management of University of Porto (FEP), highlighting the innovation and benefits brought by the tool developed by ARMIS.

The School of Economics and Management of University of Porto (FEP), in collaboration with ARMIS, will launch a pilot project next academic year that integrates artificial intelligence (AI) into higher education. This innovative project, funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), aims to revolutionize the way students and teachers interact with knowledge.

In February 2025, in the second semester of the next academic year, around 500 students from ten curricular units in various fields of study will start using a chatbot developed with generative artificial intelligence by ARMIS. This chatbot will allow teachers to upload the necessary documents to create a knowledge base, which will then be used by students, lecturers and researchers.

Developed by ARMIS, the tool is already being tested internally at FEP. Nuno Moutinho, coordinator of pedagogical innovation, explains that "each teacher will upload the material and create their own knowledge base". "Students are already using AI, but they're not using credible sources. They're left to their own devices. With this tool, they know that all sources of knowledge are validated by the teacher," he adds.

Moutinho also points out that "students now have a kind of personal tutor who interacts in several languages, which is a huge help for international students. The idea is to use it mainly for self-study, but it can also be used for group work or face-to-face dynamics in the classroom. Teachers will have access to aggregated information and various metrics, such as the concepts in which students have the greatest difficulties."

What is expected after this pilot project? Moutinho explains that "the aim is to study what has been done and create guidelines. Basically, we'll have a manual of good practices on how AI can be used. There will be a complete study of this experience, evaluating the areas in which it works best and others that can be improved, as well as the various pedagogical ways in which it can be used, from the point of view of teachers and students."

This ARMIS project promises to bring a new dimension to teaching at FEP, providing students with an innovative tool that facilitates access to validated knowledge and promotes more efficient and personalized learning.

ARMIS has excelled in the development of artificial intelligence projects both in Portugal and internationally. In addition to the project with FEP, ARMIS has implemented an AI solution for a bank in the United Arab Emirates and developed an innovative tool for the energy sector, focused on energy optimization and monitoring. "These projects underline ARMIS' ability to create advanced technological solutions applied to various sectors, optimizing organizational processes and improving operational efficiency, along with investigation in AI with our ARMIS LAB@FEUP in Portugal" says Vítor Marques, Head of Artificial Intelligence; RPA at ARMIS.
